Icing can be formed into shapes such as flowers and leaves using a pastry bag. A pastry bag is an often cone- or triangular-shaped, hand-held bag made from cloth, paper, or plastic that is used to pipe semi-solid foods by pressing them through a narrow opening at one end. Aside from icings and frostings, pastry bags are commonly used to shape meringue and whipped cream, and to fill doughnuts with jelly or vanilla custard. Using icing to decorate cakes is commonly used with wedding cakes, anniversary cakes and birthday cakes.

Sweet Cherry Cake

Line a cake-pan, which has been well-buttered, with a thin layer of kuchen dough. Stone two pounds of cherries and lay them on a sieve with a dish underneath to catch the juice. Sprinkle sugar over them and bake. In the meantime beat up four eggs with a cup of sugar, beat until light and add the cherry juice. Draw the kuchen to the oven door, pour this mixture over it and bake.

Bring some history into your kitchen.  Get the kids in the kitchen to help you bake some cherry treats.  As you work together, talk to them about the early history of our country and our first President George Washington.  This can lead to even more talks about our history.  Don't leave it to the schools to teach your children the history of their country.  Unfortunately, many of today's textbook don't even have the correct information in them.  Let your kids learn from you as you build up our country in their eyes.  Most kids like to bake and these OH-SO-EASY CHERRY BROWNIESs would be a good project for you as they are easy to make. They are diabetic friendly too. Diabetic children (of all ages) can enjoy them.

Oh-So-Easy Cherry Brownies - Instructions

Combine brownie mix, pie filling, oil, and eggs together and mix well. Grease bottom only of a 13" x 9" baking pan. Pour batter into pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes until done. After removing from oven, sprinkle with the chocolate chips and spread when they melt. Cool and cut into squares. To make a tasty and pretty serving, top brownie square with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a spoonful of the leftover pie filling.
